HEAD COACH VAL JULIEN ELECTED TO NEW JERSEY ASA HALL OF FAME |

Stockton College head softball coach Val Julien has been elected to the
New Jersey Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame as part of its
2007 class. Julien was selected for over 25 years of service as both a player
and coach. She enters her 21st season at Stockton with 311 career college
victories. Julien also has been associated with the New Jersey Divas, New
Jersey Rebels and Montclair 81’s ASA women’s fastpitch softball
teams.
Julien served as the head coach of the New Jersey Divas from 2000-05. In 2003, she led the Divas to the ASA Women’s Under-23 national championship as well the New Jersey state title, the Mid-Atlantic region championship and a third-place finish at the ASA Class A national tournament. With Julien in charge, the Divas also finished fourth at the 2004 ASA Class A national tournament, fifth at the 2005 ASA Major national tourney and seventh at the 2002 ASA Major national championship. Prior to joining the New Jersey Divas, Julien spent two seasons as an assistant coach and then 13 years as head coach of the South Jersey/New Jersey Rebels. During that time, the Rebels were one of the top women’s Class A teams in the state. As a player, Julien competed in four national tournaments as a pitcher for the Montclair 81’s, earning ASA First Team All-America honors after leading the 81’s to the 1981 national championship. Julien has coached Stockton to five ECAC tournament appearances, including three in the last four years. She led the Ospreys to a then-school record 23 wins in 2003 and later topped the mark with 25 victories in 2005. Julien collected her 300th win at Stockton on April 1, 2006 with a 14-2 victory over New Jersey City. The New Jersey ASA Hall of Fame dinner is expected to take place in late spring or early summer. |
