AUDRA SCHAPPELL NAMED NJAC WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Richard Stockton senior Audra Schappell (Mullica Hill/Clearview) was named the NJAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week today. Schappell earned the award for the second consecutive week and fourth time this year encompassing the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. She competed in three events at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Saturday.

Schappell won the discus with a toss of 137’4” that was nearly 14 feet farther than the second place finisher. She also broke her own meet record, which she set while winning the event last year. Schappell placed fourth in the hammer throw at a distance of 137’11” as well as 12th in the shot put (33’1.75”). Each of the three events featured at least 24 competitors.

Last year, Schappell was an All-American in the discus, placing sixth in the event at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She has competed in two outdoor meets this season and won the discus in both. Stockton will host the Osprey Open this Saturday, April 7 at 10 am.
