Christa Phillips Named NJAC Player of the Week
Kristin Tukel & Christy Alexander Earn NJAC Weekly Awards
Tukel, Chin & Phillips Named NJAC All-Conference
Chin Selected to Academic All-District II Team

In 2006, the Stockton women’s tennis team once again met the high standard that the program has established for itself. The Ospreys lost just one match for the third time in four years, finishing at 9-1 overall. Stockton grabbed second place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, with its only loss of the season coming against perennial NJAC juggernaut College of New Jersey. In addition to the outstanding record, the Ospreys also competed in two tournaments and saw two matches cancelled.

Christa Phillips led a group of four Stockton players who registered double-digit victory totals in singles play. Phillips, a junior, went 12-3 while senior Kristin Tukel and freshman Christy Alexander each posted 11-4 records. Senior Caitlin McMahon completed the quartet with a 10-3 singles mark. Senior Rashida Crawford and junior Jessica Victor composed Stockton’s most successful doubles pairing with an 8-2 record.

The Ospreys got the 2006 season off to a fast start with three victories in a six-day span. They later notched 9-0 shutouts over Kean and Drew for a five-match winning streak before suffering their only loss to College of New Jersey. After competing at the ITA Northeast Championships, Stockton returned to its winning ways by defeating Cabrini and FDU-Florham.

Stockton easily was the top Division III team at the statewide NJAIAW Championships. Kristin Tukel was the Flight A runner-up and Christy Alexander was the Flight C runner-up, with both players falling to Division I opponents from Princeton. Rashida Crawford and Jessica Victor were the doubles runner-up after they too were defeated by a tandem from the Ivy League school. The Ospreys wrapped up the fall 2006 campaign with NJAC wins over Ramapo and William Paterson to finish at 9-1.

Kristin Tukel was named to the NJAC All-Conference Team in singles for the second consecutive year. Tukel and Christa Phillips repeated as an NJAC All-Conference doubles team, giving Tukel her third career all-conference doubles honor. Kelly Chin also was voted to the NJAC All-Conference Team for singles play. During the season, Tukel and Phillips each were chosen the NJAC Player of the Week once, with Christy Alexander picking up one NJAC Rookie of the Week award.
