Lisa Stanek Named NJAC Rookie of the Week
Alicia Morris Named NJAC Player of the Week
Joe Fussner Elected to Atlantic City H.S. Hall of Fame
Neira, Morris & Shenk Named NJAC All-Conference

The Stockton women’s basketball team will hope to build on a seven-game winning steak and a win over top-seeded Stevens in the ECAC Metro tourney that were the highlights of the 2006-07 season. The young team carried eight freshmen and could return everyone but its three seniors next year. The Ospreys finished with a 14-14 overall record and made it all the way to the ECAC Metro tournament semifinals. Head coach Joe Fussner led the Ospreys to a second-place finish (9-4) in the NJAC South Division.

Senior Jenna Shenk and junior Lisa Neira were the leaders on the floor for the Ospreys, leading the team in scoring and minutes played. Shenk who has been a leader on the floor since her arrival at Stockton, played in all 28 games, averaging 10.7 points per game. She hit a team-high 53 three-pointers and is now the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made with 161. Neira also averaged 10.7 points per game while leading the team in assists with 75.

Senior Alicia Morris, who became the team’s all-time leading rebounder with 810 total boards, led the Ospreys in rebounds (9.0 rpg) and blocked shots (34) while adding 7.3 points per game. Junior Michele Auerbacher and sophomore Jenn Russell performed well this season and will be counted on heavily next year. Auerbacher, who was third on the team in scoring (9.7 ppg), seemed to find her game late in the season and finished second on the team with 42 three-pointers. Russell finished second on the team in rebounding (5.1 rpg) and blocks (23), while also chipping in 8.0 points per game.

Stockton opened the season poorly, dropping four of five, and the Ospreys sat at 5-9 after a 79-61 loss at DeSales. Following that game however, the Ospreys reeled off seven straight wins, starting with a 51-48 victory at New Jersey City and finally ending with a 59-33 loss to College of New Jersey. The seven-game streak was highlighted by NJAC wins over New Jersey City, Rowan, Montclair State, Rutgers-Camden and North Division champ William Paterson.

The Ospreys also won their regular season finale at Rowan 82-74 but lost a heartbreaker in their NJAC tournament first round game against Rutgers-Newark, 51-50. Another great story was their upset win in the ECAC Metro tourney. Playing as the eighth and final seed, Stockton knocked off the top seed Stevens on the road 74-59 before falling to NJAC rival Montclair State in the ECAC semifinals, ending its season at 14-14 overall.

Neira was named to the NJAC All-Conference Second Team, while Shenk and Morris were named as NJAC Honorable Mention players. Morris also collected an NJAC Player of the Week award during the season and freshmen Lisa Stanek was named NJAC Rookie of the Week once during the season.
