PHIL 2201 African American Philosophy

This course examines the social impact and influence of African American philosophical thought through the works of writers such as Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, W.E.B. DuBois, Alain Locke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Angela Davis, bell hooks, and Cornell West.  We study both the historical origins of "philosophy born of struggle" and examine its moral, political, ethical, and feminist dimensions and implications.
