PHIL 3609 Existentialism:
 
 
 

This course involves the in-depth study of those writers who have figured prominently in the philosophical movement referred to as Existentialism. In the course we examine the views of Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Sartre, DeBeauvoir, and Camus regarding the human person in her/his existence and, in this examination, seek
 

1) to situate existentialism within the history of philosophy both as regards antecedent and subsequent philosophical perspectives,

2) to concentrate on the issues which the existentialist viewpoint raises,

3) to determine the relevance of existentialism in and for our lives and our contemporary milieu.
