Community Schools

Mission

Our mission is to use the university-assisted community-school model to work with urban school districts to assist in school and community transformation.

Vision

The vision of Community Schools  is to transform our community, one school at a time.

We will do this through using the university-assisted, community school model created by the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania. The "Netter" has worked with West Philadelphia schools for over 25 years, in creating mutually beneficial, mutually respectful relationships with the school district and local community in...

"...actively solving strategic, real-world, community-identified problems in their local community"..creating a much better opportunity for the institution of higher education to "significantly advance learning, research, teaching, and service."  (Benson, Harkavy & Puckett, 2008: Universities, Schools, Communities, and Democracy, The Good Society 17(2):93.)

What is our purpose?: Our purpose at Community Schools is to work with urban schools to create positive change for schools and their neighborhoods and communities.

How will we do this?:  We will achieve positive change through partnering with community groups already at work in supporting schools as well as new partners who would like to join us.

The Netter Model

Here at Stockton University we will use the University-Assisted Community School Model of the University of Pennsylvania's Netter Center for Community Partnerships to help support schools in South Jersey. We are pleased the Atlantic City School District has agreed to partners with Stockton in implenting and assessing the Netter Model as applied to a shore community.

Join us as we work with community partners and our schools to improve students’ lives and transform our community, one school at a time.
