GALLOWAY TWP, NJ Kick-off for Latin Heritage Month at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey began on March 31 with a full day of events that included welcoming remarks from college president, Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr., a buffet brunch and the rich sounds of the salsa band, Los Rumberos Nuevos.

Lectures and workshops about the Latino and Mexican cultures will be held throughout the month and will include The Dominican Republic: Culture & Life, the life of the late, legendary Cuban-born singer Celia Cruz, Viva Mexico: Mexican Culture, and a discussion about the movie Tortilla Soup.

An excursion to New York City is planned for April 7 where renowned Flamenco dancer Pilar Rojo will provide private dance lessons prior to her performance, and on April 24 a trip to Atlantic City will give participants a chance to experience authentic Cuban and Nuevo (new) Latino dishes.

Other activities include Latin dance workshops, a dominoes tournament and Latin American Jeopardy night. The months festivities will conclude on April 30 with Los Latinos Unidos catered anniversary dinner which will feature both live music and a disc jockey.

All events are free and open to the public. For workshop locations and other information, please contact Los Latinos Unidos at 609-626-1966 or 856-217-9161.
