Marucci Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension Center to Host The 20th Annual Insect Field Day

Galloway Township, NJ Entomologists, teachers, students and the general public are invited for guided field trips, talks, displays, films and activities on Insect Field Day. On Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, Insect Field Day will be held at Marucci Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension Center on 125A Lake Oswego Road in Chatsworth, NJ. The public is invited to attend for all or part of the day. Registration will be ongoing.

 

Professional entomologists, including scientists from the Marucci Research Center, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the University of Delaware and the Richard Stockton College will lead field trips and workshops. They will also be available to help with ideas for science projects. Students are encouraged to connect with mentors for science fair projects and to complete Scout badge requirements. Continuing education credits are also available to teachers from New Jersey and Delaware.

 

Participants may bring cameras, collecting equipment, specimen containers, insect collections for show and to obtain expert help with identification. Participants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch and drinks.

 

Dr. Jamie Cromartie, Stockton College Associate Professor of Environmental Studies, advises participants who want to venture into fields and forests to bring repellant for ticks and chiggers. Wear long pants and socks into which pants may be tucked.
