You Can Go Fast If You Find the Right People

It is the Holiday Season, and Stockton has already received a big gift. You cannot really put a bow on him, but John Bancheri is the complete package as the new rowing coach for the women’s varsity program and the men’s club team.

John is a 1978 graduate of Atlantic City High School (ACHS), where he rowed for coach Bob Garbutt, who advised him “that you can have telephone poles and riggers and you can go fast if you find the right people.”

John has been a winner his whole life as a rower at Atlantic High and as a coach at Grand Valley State, Marietta College of Ohio, Wichita State University and the University of Charleston in West Virginia.

Now, he is back home with us in Atlantic City. The Stockton rowing program, both women and men, will be based at the new Atlantic City campus, just steps from the beach and boardwalk. Our rowers will share the ACHS boathouse, a short walk from campus, and part of the University District.

As John coaches our rowers on the bay waters, we will see “Stockton” emblazoned on our strong women and men as they learn to work together, improve their technique and prepare to win.

From the ocean to the bay, Stockton University is truly a university coastal city, and provides a complimentary “environment for excellence”  to our Galloway campus and our locations in Hammonton, Manahawkin and Woodbine.
