WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT

students sitting around loungeStockton to Offer Summer 2024 Tuition Discount

Stockton will offer a 20% discount on undergraduate summer tuition and fees for students who want to live on campus and work and learn at the shore this summer.

The Board of Trustees approved the discount at the Dec. 6 meeting.

The goal is to give college students the opportunity to remain in Galloway or Atlantic City campus housing while they take classes or work over the summer.

"Summer housing provides students a 12-month housing experience for those who want to work, study or need stable housing,” said Steven Radwanski, assistant vice president for Student Living and Learning. “Stockton provides students with a year-round home while they are preparing for their futures.”

Summer housing begins May 11 and runs through Aug. 10. Stockton academic-year residential students may opt-in to a 12-month contract for summer for an additional fee.

Savannah Spinelli peered through the microscope to examine the leaf litter sample she pulled from Lake Fred earlier in the day.

Working for years at a Girl Scout camp, the Absegami High School senior loves nature, so she was excited to look for any microorganisms she could find.

“I’ve come to Stockton before, but this is a little bit different. This is right up my alley,” the Galloway Township native said. “I should have brought my rain boots, honestly, because I would have been in that water immediately. I’m not afraid to get dirty and get wet. I’ll just go into the water anywhere.”

“Do you mind looking here for me?”

The guests sitting on set in Stockton’s Production Studio – a Pennsylvania vlogger who is most known for surfing in all 50 states and his wife – simultaneously looked up at the student cameraperson to their left, all to realize that the voice in the dark actually came from their right.

Soon, the sound of feedback crackled through the air of the room.

“Your arm is covering the mic – try to keep your arms on the table,” another media production student said before pointing to the surfer Ben Gravy’s bright Hawaiian shirt covered in pineapples, “Plus, you have on a nice shirt, and we would love for the audience to see it.”

The sound of feedback was soon replaced by the dull hum of the ceiling spotlights and the sound of laughter as student hosts Alex Corson and Anthony Gentile joked with their guests. As Corson was about to tell another joke, a kind but stern voice rang out.

“Quiet on set, please!”

Professors’ Research Released in Report; Examines Motherhood in Ethnic Families

Black women in New Jersey experience seven times the rate of pregnancy-associated death compared to their white counterparts. Additionally, Black women experience 3.5 times the rate of infant death compared to white women. Associate Professors of Sociology Christina Jackson and Betsy Erbaugh began addressing these issues  in research related to First Lady of New Jersey Tammy Murphy's Nurture NJ campaign, specifically the need for a maternal and infant health center in Trenton in 2022.

Their report from this collaborative project with Kean University was recently released, and can be viewed here
