Compliance, broadly considered, covers a very wide range of issues and activities which guide policies and responsibilities connected to research.  Embedded in these guidelines are principles of responsible stewardship of resources, public trust in fulfilling our obligations, reliability of results gained from research, and respect for living beings, among other ideals.  Very simply categorized, the focus of these compliance issues can be covered by two separate umbrellas: 1) fiscal matters and 2) performance activities.  Those concerned with fiscal issues are regulated and managed by a seperate set of documents.  The information here concerns The Responsible Conduct of Research or RCR (the generally accepted name within research communities) and covers primarily actions and standards of behavior while "doing research."

Compliance and Training Opportunities

Information and training in critical areas of Responsible Research practices are available through CITI training modules for the following core areas: 

• RCR Overview
• Misconduct in biomedical topics
• Misconduct in Social and Behavioral Sciences - responsible peer review
• Misconduct in Physical Sciences- field data acquisition and management
• Misconduct in Arts and Humanities – editing and crediting
  
  

In addition to this on-line training, researchers are expected to mentor students in responsible practices and to integrate key issues in coursework.
