Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Eligible to Apply?
To be eligible for course approval, applicants must:
- Submit a complete application at least 90 days before the scheduled program date.
- Demonstrate the ability to create, issue, and maintain attendance records, certificates of completion, participant evaluations, and any additional documentation required for approved programs.
- Ensure that all course content, learning objectives, instructional materials, and presenters comply with the New Jersey State Board of Social Work Examiners statutes and regulations.
While not required, applicants are strongly encouraged to involve a licensed social worker in the planning, development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the continuing education program to help ensure content is relevant and consistent with professional social work standards.
What are the Fees?
Course approvals are issued according to the New Jersey State Board of Social Work Examiners' two-year licensing cycle, which begins on September 1 of each even-numbered year and ends on August 31 of the following even-numbered year.
For example, an approval granted during the September 1, 2024 – August 31, 2026 licensing cycle remains valid through August 31, 2026. During the approval period, the course may be offered an unlimited number of times, provided there are no substantial changes to the course content, presenter(s), or program length. Significant changes require the submission of a new application.
Application Fees
Application fees are based on the following factors:
- Number of applications submitted: Reduced rates are available when multiple applications are submitted at the same time.
- Organization type: Nonprofit organizations are eligible for discounted application fees.
- Conference applications: Special conference pricing applies to programs held over consecutive dates and/or events offering multiple concurrent workshops. Conference approvals are valid only for the approved conference and are not renewable.
Please review the following Fee Schedule for Individual Applications and Conferences before submitting your materials. If you plan to submit multiple course applications to qualify for the reduced rate, or if you are submitting several workshops as part of a conference, please contact the Stockton University School of Social and Behavioral Sciences before submitting your application to ensure the correct fee is assessed.
