Become a Tutor

If you are interested in becoming a tutor, we are always looking for talented students who have a strong desire to help others.

Math Tutors

Math tutors are generally hired from the following majors: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, physical therapy, environmental science, marine science, business, computer science, economics psychology, criminal justice and education. Students from other majors who have done well in Q-designated courses have also been hired as math tutors.

To apply, fill out a tutor application. You will also need two faculty members to submit a recommendation to the same office.

When your application is complete, we will invite you for an interview. You should be aware that hiring is contingent upon participation in tutor training as well as attendance at tutor meetings scheduled several times each semester

Peer Tutors

Students interested in becoming peer writers at the Writing Center must first successfully complete GEN 3952, Writing Center Practicum, a four-credit, semester-long training course offered most spring semesters. It carries a W1 attribute and is offered by permission of instructor. The course centers on writing and writing center theory and practice. Students participating in the Practicum meet once a week as a class, plus three to four hours a week in the Writing Center, at first observing, and later putting what they've learned in class into practice.

If you are interested in becoming a peer writer and enrolling in the Practicum, please email Eddie Horan, Writing Center Coordinator.
