Meeting Minutes - Tuesday, January 13, 2025

FHS Monthly Meeting (ZOOM) Start Time: 6:40pm

Present:  Tula Christopoulos; Cathy Karathanasis; Mariea Kazantzis; Katherine Panagakos;    Katherine Sheehan.

December Minutes: Cathy K. moved; Katherine P. seconded. Approved.

Scholarship Updates: Katherine

  • Philosophy student will not be going to Greece in the spring due to visa issues.
  • Vic will update the scholarship page for summer application.
  • Foundation waiting for Tom to respond to questions about his student trip.Tula will remind him.

Financial Report:  Tula

  • Payroll deduction donations.
  • Katherine questioned why her December 2025 student trip was charged to FHS account. Discussion followed. She will speak with Tom and ARHU.

Pappas Hellenic Center Report:  Tula (Tom is still in Greece)

Updates on various on-going projects for Pappas and FHS:

  • Vasilopita: We all need to share the flyer and invitation appropriately.
    • Tula will ask Lisa Mitoulis to request that Fr. George announce it this and next Sunday.
    • Also to add the flyer to the weekly church bulletin.
    • Tula will contact St. Nicholas-Atlantic City to do same.
  • Exploring Hellenism: Magna Graecia March 1st event:
    • Katherine will give a 20 minute historic overview of the region.
  • Luisa joined the meeting at this point; program and order was discussed:
    • She shared that the new Consul General of Phila. will attend. She requested a special invitation for him. Tula will look into it.
    • Tom had said he would also invite the Consul General of Greece of NY.
    • Both will have an opportunity to give a greeting.
    • Tula will ask Prof. Lucio again to respond to give a greeting in Italian.
    • Tula said the program order will be finalized when Tom returns Thursday.
  • Contract:
    • Tula explained the delay in sending out the contract was due to risk management not approving on-campus lodging for the band. Contract should go out before end of the week. Off-campus accommodations will be reserved.
  • Catering:
    • Discussion of possibly having Luisa give 5 minutes about the regional food and Tula give 5 minutes about the indigenous wine grapes. (PowerPoint?)
    • Tula suggested signs (or a sign?) at the buffet of regional origin of each dish.
  • Fundraising:
    • Total food/beverage cost: $30/pp. Tickets: The $50 tickets will net $20/pp.
    • Baskets and statue for silent auction. Tula will check with Foundation on license.
    • Tula will ask Anthony & Eleni to sell silent auction tickets.
  • POSTCARD/INVITATION:
    • Tula discussed the postcard delay: fair market value of food costs were needed; Tom made verbiage and design modifications.
    • Will have QR code connecting to a giving/ticket page the Foundation created. That should be ready by the end of the week.
  • Centerpieces: Tula will ask Roula Hanna if she can donate or give a discount.
  • MC: Cathy Karathanasis. Tula will help with the script.

Hellenic Voice: Mariea

  • Spring issue deadline: End of April.
  • Theme will be to cover all spring FHS events and activities.

New Business:

  • Possible late April (18 or 25) trip to the new Princeton Museum – Katherine P. will investigate and organize.
  • Cathy K. found Greek restaurants and a Greek deli near the museum we could incorporate into the itinerary.
