Meeting Minutes - Tuesday, December 9, 2025

FHS Monthly Meeting (ZOOM) Start Time: 6:40pm

Present:  Tula Christopoulos; Cathy Karathanasis; Mariea Kazantzis; Katherine Panagakos

November Minutes: Cathy moved; Tula seconded. Approved.

Financial Report:  Usual payroll deduction donations.

Scholarship Updates: Katherine.

  • Katherine has not yet heard from the Foundation
  • Philosophy student will be going to Greece in the spring.
  • After the semester, Katherine will update the scholarship page’s application.

Pappas Hellenic Center Report:  No report.

Website: Mariea.

  • Posted Hellenic Voice. Up to date.

Hellenic Voice: Mariea.

  • Much positive feedback on the current issue.
  • Tula suggested emailing it to personal distribution lists.
  • Cathy indicated Athena V. had not received a copy although she receives meeting notices.
  • Tula will check with Sarah on this.
  • Mariea asked about having Lisa Mitoulis send it out to the Holy Trinity parishioners. Tula will speak to Lisa about this.

Exploring Hellenism:

  • Sponsorship letter: Tula indicated she had revised and emailed it to Tom, per his request.
  • Save the Date card: It was agreed to use Tom’s suggested title.
  • Narrative will be modified to highlight the program: History; Food/Wine; Music; Dance.
  • All agreed to keep message brief and straightforward on the Save the Date postcard.
  • Tula sent invite to President Joe and Provost Palladino. The Provost can definitely attend. The President has been traveling out of town. We will know shortly.
  • Discussion on the program itself: Katherine suggested after she gives a 15 minute history, have Luisa speak five minutes about the regional food and Tula speak five minutes about the regional wines and indigenous grapes connecting both to their Greek roots.
  • Send out Save the Date the first week in January.
  • Mid-January: Send out a digital copy of the Save the Date with more details, including Links to Magna Graecia history; Zafarán’s page; details on the fundraiser and sponsorship; Event ticket price.
  • Decide when to send out official invitation and how it will look.

Vasilopita 2026:

  • Anthony and Eleni Tsourounakis would like to host. Any day in January or February is OK.
  • After discussion: Sunday, January 4th around 1pm was chosen. January 18th as alternate.
  • Tula will contact Eleni and key FHS members, including Tom regarding the dates.
  • Tula will order the Vasilopita from Minos Bakery.
  • The FHS will contribute food and desserts to help out the hosts.
  • Once the date is set, Tula will send invitations to President Joe, the Provost and the Foundation staff.
