STOCKTON UNIVERSITY FRIENDS OF HELLENIC STUDIES (FHS)

MINUTES

 

Tuesday, March 10, 2026- FHS Monthly Meeting (ZOOM) Start Time: 6:33pm

 

Present:  Sarah Albertson; Tula Christopoulos; Cathy Karathanasis; Mariea Kazantzis; Katherine Panagakos; Tom Papademetriou.  

February Minutes: Katherine P.; Tula C. seconded. Approved.

 

Scholarship Updates: Katherine

  • No updates

 

ARHU meeting to update website to meet accessibility requirements:

  • Mariea spoke with Dan Gambert, Assistant Dir. of Web Comm.
  • From now on, only webpages permitted. No pdf file can be uploaded.
  • Dan will contact her when an instructional video is ready
  • Sarah added that the Hellenic Voice back issues can be downloaded to a drive.
  • Old issues and texts will need to be requested from Hellenic Studies.
  • Sarah will ask if Google Docs can be used for the minutes and agenda.
  • Can still use MailChimp with the link to the web version on the website.

 

Financial Report:  Tula

  • Tula explained the ticket, sponsorship and donation transactions display fair market value separate from the tax-deductible portion of the ticket.
  • Mariea asked why her check did not show. All checks most likely not posted yet.
  • Tula spoke with Sue Werner of the Foundation today: The account hasn’t been settled yet.

 

Pappas Hellenic Center Report:  Tom

  • Troy to Ithaca 17-student group left Friday for Troy-Istanbul. They are in Greece by now.
  • 3/22:Alkyone concert 4pm-7pm Art Gallery.
  • 4/21: Constantelos Lecture, 4:30pm. Keynote : Prof. David Roessel who is retiring. L-wing: Holocaust Center Lecture Hall. Reception afterwards in corridor.
  • 3/26: Tom will take a tour of new Library space with student worker and Tula.

 

Exploring Hellenism: Magna Graecia – ALL

  • Mariea articulated her positive impression of the event
  • Tula has received much positive feedback
  • Lots of accolades were expressed for Luisa’s help and inspiration.
  • Tula emailed a rough draft of critical tasks for event planning to the FHS co-chairs and committee members.
  • She asked all to think of any actions that are missing; will create a checklist for future event planning.

 

 

 

 

Hellenic Voice: Mariea

  • Spring issue deadline for articles: End of April.
  • Theme will be to cover all spring FHS events and activities.
  • Luisa submitted an article on the Magna Graecia event.
  • Tula said an acquaintance for whom this was the first Hellenic Studies event, may write an article of her impressions from that point of reference. Tula will check.
  • Mariea stressed the importance of honoring H.V. submission deadlines.
  • Sarah suggested having a (Comm? Music? Theater? major student interview Alkyone)
  • Tula suggested printing a spring or Easter recipe? Tom said too late for Easter theme.

 

Old Business: Princeton Museum trip

  • April 25th Leave 8am (Bus)
  • Arrive 10am; tour of Princeton University campus
  • 11am Museum – self-guided walk through until the...
  • ...Highlights Tour which starts at noon
  • Leave 1:30pm for Kosta’s Grill, Tuckerton, to get there 3pm
  • Fee: $25/pp non-students; $10/pp for students
  • Pappas Center will cover bus and tour costs.
  • FHS will pay $15/pp: For driver’s tip ($5/pp) plus additional $10/pp for the students
  • Katherine and Sarah will work on the flyer
  • Deadline: 4/13

 

New Business:

  • Katherine will be on a one-year sabbatical as of September 1st.
  • Mariea circled back to the H.V. suggesting Katherine write the co-Chair greeting, mentioning her sabbatical and that Cathy will step in for the year.
