In support of Stockton’s mission, University policies express our official position on matters of importance to the University as a whole.

Our policies and procedures govern the actions and activities of the institution and clearly communicate University expectations, guidelines and best practices.

What are the benefits of having policies and procedures?

Stockton’s policies and procedures enhance institutional effectiveness, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide safeguards to minimize risk.

Do I need to know about University policies and procedures?

We encourage faculty, staff, students, and all members of the Stockton community to become familiar with the University’s policies and procedures to enrich understanding of the institution’s expectations and improve overall productivity.  

What’s the difference between policy and procedure?

Policy creates an operational framework that is aligned with the mission of the University and focuses on providing broader direction that has widespread application across the University.

Procedures are tailored to processes in place for each specific division.

How are University policies and procedures established/ developed?

Stockton’s policies and procedures are developed at the University through a process of collaboration among stakeholders.

The division responsible for developing and updating policy and procedure will identify stakeholders at the University that will be impacted by its adoption.

Policy and procedure will be vetted through all appropriate channels before any recommendation for adoption is made to the President of the University. 

Who approves University policies and procedures?

Policies require the review and approval of the University president and the Board of Trustees.

Procedures require the approval of the University president.

Recognizing the importance of shared governance, policies and procedures are expected to undergo the appropriate University legislative review before being recommended for presidential approval.

Does the University have a standard format for policies and procedures?

New policy and procedure is drafted using a standard format established by the University.  The University has developed templates to facilitate drafting policy and procedure, which are available on Stockton University Policy and Procedure Webpage.

 Where can I find University policies and procedures?

The Stockton University Policy and Procedure Webpage is the official source for policies and procedures, serving as a readily accessible repository for the Stockton community. The site is regularly updated as new policies and procedures are issued or current policies and procedures are revised. 

In order to maintain an organized system of change control and to ensure consistency throughout the University, individual department websites should not contain separate copies or versions of University policies and procedures. Department websites that reference the University’s policies and procedures must use hyperlinks to the documents on the official Stockton University Policy and Procedure Webpage.

Who authorizes the deletion of University policies and procedures from the site?

Deletion of policies requires the review and approval of the University President and the Board of Trustees.  All policy deletions must be presented to the Board of Trustees by the University President for first and second readings. The Policy Management Team is responsible for preparing first and second reading memorandums, and the Approval of Action Resolution for the Board of Trustees.

Deletion of procedures requires the approval of the University President.  The request to delete a procedure must be accompanied by supporting documentation and/or narrative that justifies the deletion.  The Policy Management Team is responsible for preparing and submitting the supporting documentation with the request.

Who should I contact if I have questions or comments on a specific policy or procedure?
