Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to teach evidence based practice use of thrust manipulation of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. This course will teach the clinical decision making used for spinal manipulation, current statistics, analysis of outcomes from clinically relevant research, safety measures and screening required prior to providing this manual intervention. Additionally, students will be taught the psychomotor skills to perform spinal manipulation techniques in an effective and safe manner.

Objectives

  • Conduct an accurate differential diagnosis of spinal conditions and recognize when referral is appropriate
  • Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of spinal regions. This will include evidence based tests/ measures with high diagnostic properties and identify comparable/ asterisk signs.
  • Identify contraindication/precautions when choosing to implement thrust manipulation as an intervention
  • Identify and apply sound clinical decision making supported by current best evidence when choosing to use thrust manipulation
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate appropriate psychomotor skills for all techniques learned.
